Don Byer started working with silver in his mid-teens, influenced by his
Hippie sister, Diane and a formally schooled metal shop teacher, his Dad, Lou;
Don comes from a crafty family.
When Don started he was overly concerned with perfection and every piece was an
intense labor. He did not get much for his efforts and grew away from something
he knew he would return to in some way.
Skipping forward a couple of decades and moving from NJ to NM, he finds himself
in a better place to relax and except that pure perfection is there only with
blessings and as a matter of perception. Given that attitude, he is making lots
of wearable art that is unique from piece to piece.
Don’s workshop is dedicated to his spiritual practice that takes it's
inspiration from Yoga, his path. Don thinks you can describe his work as a
blessing of sorts that is both deep and lighthearted at the same time.
Personally, he can take no credit, the work seems to produce itself and he hopes
that others will find it to be more than just something to wear.
